George Carlin Was Lucky In Love

George Carlin
& Sally Wade
I’m sure that most of us have heard about George Carlin passing on June 22 from heart failure. While we know that he was a thoroughly irreverent comedian, infamous for his “Seven Words You Can’t Say On TV,” what you might not know is that George Carlin was a happily married man twice and without a divorce. How many of us get that lucky even once?
Women and Men: It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World, No?
First off, I fell off the wagon with blogging. My life took one of those sudden 180 degree turns, unfortunately, right in the middle of the Week of Positive Blogging, which I couldn’t finish. I had to make some major life decisions, drop everything and turn my 100% focus on them. Ah, life is what happens to you while you’re busy making other plans. Sometimes it’s “yay” and other times it’s “nay.” The nice thing is that eventually, even out of a “nay” situation you can come up with some “yays.”
Can Men & Women Argue & Have A Happy Ending?
There was an article a couple of days ago in the UK Times Online, “Why men and women argue differently” that started out with a funny story about a married couple in Gapun, a remote village in Papua New Guinea. Talk about cultural differences—or not?! They had a dispute after the wife fell through a hole in the rotten floor of their home and she blamed her husband for lousy workmanship. He retaliated by hitting her with a piece of sugar cane, to which she responded with a threat to slice him up with a machete and burn the home to the ground.
Your Romantic Ideas
Coming up with new romantic ideas isn’t easy once you’re married or in a long-term relationship and settled into your “routine.” Ah, the sweet bliss of every day married life, no ups and downs, no spending time wondering about those love me, love me not blues or waiting for that phone call for the next date. But the day comes when you wake up and realize that there’s no surprises, no anticipation. It’s just the same ‘ol stuff. And that ain’t gonna cut it for the long haul. As Chris Rock said, “Keep it new or the relationship is through.” You want to get the magic back. You NEED to get that lovey dovey mojo workin’ again.
How Long Do You Plan To Stay Married?
Marriages in the U.S. now end in divorce at slightly more than a 50% rate, not a pleasant thought. We marry “until death do us part”, but prenups attest to this fact that most go into marriage feeling that there’s a need to protect your assets. The National Center for Health Statistics has free, downloadable PDFs about U.S. state marriage statistics, in case you’re curious about in which states couples stay married longer.
