The Best 50th Wedding Anniversary Gift
Couples who stayed married through thick and thin for 50 years deserve an especially wonderful 50th anniversary celebration, one that celebrates their journey of love. This is a perfect time to have a family & friends reunion, which can be a more intimate gathering at someone’s home to an all-out bash at a local restaurant or venue.
While folks go nuts thinking about what anniversary gift they can give, from my experience with my parents and friends’ parents milestone anniversaries, hands down—gathering family and friends to share in a joyous celebration is the best 50th wedding anniversary gift you can give to your parents. Commemorate their love with a photo scrapbook, buy a guest book to fill with cherished messages from family and friends. By 50 years together, most couples really don’t want or need more “stuff.”
Marriage Is A Journey (To State The Obvious)
Marriage is not a ritual or an end. It is a long, intricate, intimate dance together and nothing matters more than your own sense of balance … and your choice of partner.

“Planning My Wedding” is probably listed in the top 3 most important life events for many women (& men, as it’s probably rising on gay and lesbian lists as their right to marry is increasingly legalized). Well, yes, it is supposed to be a singular, once-in-a-lifetime event, however, divorce statistics say otherwise.
50 Years of Love and Marriage
“She was the most special thing in my life and still is,” says Donald Joye about his wife Phyllis, with whom he’s shared 50 years of married bliss. How incredible is that!
They met in junior high and it was love at first sight. They secretly married while still in high school and somehow managed to keep their marriage secret (their parents had figured it out anyway, but approved and also kept their secret) so they could graduate and Phyllis could still be the homecoming queen. She never had a wedding dress, but had her prom dress altered to fit for their 50th wedding anniversary celebration. Read their fairy tale love story here.
A True Leap of Love
How many ways are you encouraged to live a fearful life? TV and magazine ads tell us we must avoid bacteria and use bacterial wipes (which are rather ineffective according to many reports), pills are offered for every type of ache and pain in our bodies with a yard-long list of side effects, we should worry about not having enough money for retirement, pet food is contaminated, toys have lead…the list is endless. While we don’t think that we absorb all of these fears on a conscious level, our subconsious is storing all the fear, worry and anxiety stories for us. We wonder why we get used to doing the same ‘ol, same ‘ol. Society is programming us to be fearful and we wind up only doing things that are “safe” without questioning what the cost of this so-called safety is taking from our full embracing of life and all its possibilities.
How To Commemorate a Milestone Anniversary
Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary (Diamond Anniversary) on November 20th. Married in 1947 at Westminster Abbey, HRH is the first monarch to celebrate 60 years of marriage. And for that, they will be honored with a public holiday and a commemorative issue of stamps and a silver coin. Well, 99.99% of us will not receive a public holiday for a milestone anniversary but what can the royal couple possibly give each other? After all, she already is the Queen and she owns the Crown Jewels…it doesn’t get much better than that. The royal couple did what many couples do to spread the love: they began their celebration recently by attending a charity auction dinner to raise money for a Gorleston hospital. And yes, their romance endures.
