I changed my blog to “Celebrate Love” from “Celebrate Marriage” as there are couples who aren’t married but are in committed relationships and everyone needs to be in the party! Modern love can be such a mashup: personal romantic notions sliced with traditional values, throw in your favorite media influence (reality shows, video games, music, celebrities) and sprinkle some exotic cultural seasonings to taste. The rules of the game? Shake ‘em and bake ‘em to your liking—and hope you find that special someone who appreciates your unique blend.
Despite my 20+ year marriage not lasting, I remain what I call a “realistic romantic.” There’s plenty of long-lasting relationships around me and speaking from my experience, I’ll say that love that endures through decades creates an understanding on levels that are beyond words. Yes, I want that depth of love in my life again, but do I want to remarry? Mmm, at my stage in life: a committed relationship but keeping separate households feels right.
Celebrate Love will be an exploration of all the wonderful, provocative ideas that shape love and romance in this brave, new 21st century. Hope you’ll contribute your own insights and experience! Guest bloggers are welcome.
P.S. I am NOT the Renée Michaels who is the author of “The Sword and the Sorceress.” As several long-time friends discovered this and asked if I was keeping a secret career from them, I thought I should mention it.
